Fostering Research and Collaboration: ATBC2026 Grant Opportunities
Deadline for applications: May 5th, 2026
We are pleased to announce the availability of grants for participants attending the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC) in Xishuangbanna, China. We have two different support mechanisms, one support through ATBC is intended for students, post-doctoral researchers, and early-career researchers (less than 5 years since graduation year) in presenting their work, networking with peers, and gaining valuable experience at an international conference.
In addition, we are pleased to have a second support mechanism that expands our travels grants with the generous contribution of the Global Vistas Foundation (GVF) through their Equity in Scientific Representation initiative. This will support travel and conference participation (up to 10 grants) for primary authors and presenters who are students, and early- and mid-career scientists with accepted abstracts who are based in low- and lower-middle-income countries and working in biodiversity hotspots.
These grants aim to make the conference more accessible and foster a diverse, global community of researchers dedicated to tropical biology and conservation. During the conference, grantees will have the opportunities to interact with seniors researchers as well potential collaborators.
Please note:
-
The number of available grants will depend on the availability of funds and the budget for the event.
-
Funds will be reimbursed during the conference. For GVF grants, a partial advance payment may be provided before the conference.
To facilitate a supportive travel experience, ATBC and Global Vistas Foundation encourage researchers from the same institution, city, or region to apply at the same time. Traveling together can make international logistics less daunting and allows for shared lodging opportunities that help us extend grants to more of your colleagues.
1. Travel Grants: To partially assist with the cost of travel to and from the conference venue. ATBC travel grants are generally limited to USD 500; however, selected eligible applicants may be considered for additional GVF-supported funding (which can cover travel, accommodation, and registration). Funding sources and award amounts will be determined internally based on eligibility, demonstrated need, and availability of funds.
2. Registration Fee Waivers: For participants who require financial support to cover the conference registration fees.
-
Please note that applicants only need to submit one grant application. During the evaluation process, the evaluation committee will determine whether an application may be eligible for GVF-supported funding. In such cases, selected applicants may receive additional support, which may include registration fee coverage, depending on eligibility, demonstrated need, and availability of funds. Applicants may be considered for different funding sources; however, only one award will be granted per selected applicant.
-
-
Must be a current member of ATBC or apply for membership along with the grant application. Membership can be obtained here.
-
Preference will be given to students, postdoctoral, and early career researchers from low-income countries and South East Asia with accepted abstracts. Please note that additional eligibility criteria apply for GVF-supported funding, for which applicants from both low- and lower-middle-income countries may be considered as well as more senior researchers.
-
Must have an accepted abstract for presentation (in symposium, oral session or poster session) or an organized session at ATBC2026.
-
Demonstrate financial need and potential impact of attending the conference.
-
Applicants who have already paid the registration fee may still apply for a grant. If selected, they will receive a reimbursement for the registration fee.
