We are pleased to announce the pre-conference field course for local students. The Jacana Foundation, through the Association for Tropical Biology & Conservation (ATBC, https://tropicalbiology.org/), has provided foundational support to cover expenses for twenty students to attend the Botany Field Course and subsequent registration fees to their annual meeting in Jinghong.

The Botany Field Course

The Botany Field Course provides intensive, hands-on training in plant identification and taxonomy within the world-class Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (https://en.xtbg.ac.cn/au/bi/). The course is designed to address the global decline in taxonomic expertise and will equip students with fundamental botanical skills to identify and study tropical flora. Students will work alongside internationally recognized experts, Professors Ferry Slik and Yunhong Tan. The course will be in English with Professor Tan and two fellows speak Chinese and will provide language support.

The ATBC 2026 Conference

The ATBC 2026 Conference (https://www.atbc2026.org/) is the premier global gathering for tropical biology, bringing together a diverse community of researchers to science and transboundary conservation strategies. Students will have access to dedicated professional development programs, including mentoring mixers and networking sessions designed to foster lifelong global collaborations. Students as early-career scientists will discover and meet peers and mentors who will help shape their future careers.

The student award covers:

  • Field course tuition

  • Food/accommodation during the 4-day workshop

  • Full ATBC conference registration fees.

Note: Students are responsible for their own travel to the conference venue and their food/accommodation during the conference days.
