Academic Focus

This excursion explores the relationship between traditional ecological knowledge and tropical biodiversity conservation in southern Yunnan. Participants will examine biocultural landscapes in the Jinuo Mountains and subsequently engage with ethnobotanical collections and conservation frameworks at XTBG.

What participants will experience

The morning session will focus on biocultural landscapes in the Jinuo Mountains. Participants will examine traditional agroforestry systems, plant-based livelihoods, and community-based ecological knowledge under guided interpretation.


In the afternoon, the group will visit XTBG to explore ethnobotanical and economic plant collections. Discussions will highlight how botanical gardens support documentation, conservation, and scientific evaluation of culturally important plant species.
